A skin lesion that President Joe Biden had removed during a Feb. 16 checkup was found to have been cancerous tissue, said Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, in a memo released Friday by the White House.

The memo said all cancerous tissue was removed, no further treatment is required, and the site of the biopsy has “healed nicely.”

O’Connor had mentioned that the skin lesion had been removed from Biden’s chest and was undergoing a traditional biopsy in a Feb. 16 memo after the president’s checkup. The doctor described the president as “healthy, vigorous” and “fit” to handle his White House responsibilities in his missive last month.

Biden’s health has been drawing attention as he is nearing an announcement about seeking another term amid some voters’ concerns over his age.

The president, who is 80, appears poised to announce in March or April that he’ll run for office again.
